Kate Leaves Hospital Quickly After Giving Birth

By | MS&J Feed | No Comments

“Of course she gets more rest in the palace!”  -Jodi

Listen to Jodi talk about the royal baby in the Hollywood  Outsider at 13:10 in the show podcast below:

According to Good Housekeeping

Kate Middleton gave birth to a healthy, 8-pound baby boy. Just seven hours later, she and Prince William left the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s for the comforts of home at Kensington Palace.

The quick departure may come from practice — Kate stayed at the hospital for 10 hours after Princess Charlotte’s birth and overnight with Prince George — but she also has more reasons to get a move on than the non-royal mom.

The short stay definitely marked a departure from the typical birth. New moms in the U.K. spend on average a day and a half in the hospital, while American mothers usually rest up for two, according to The Guardian.

No Charges Filed in Prince Case

By | MS&J Feed | No Comments

“I think he would have hated us all knowing so many of these little details.  He didn’t want anyone to know he was being prescribed anything.   He was so private.”   -Jodi

Listen to it in today’s Hollywood Outsider at 30:50 in the show podcast below:

According to USA Today.

“He thought he was taking Vicodin and not fentanyl,” said Carver County Attorney Mark Metz at a press conference in Prince’s home county.

Metz, the top prosecutor in the suburban Minneapolis county that is home to Prince’s studio/home complex Paisley Park, told reporters the results of a “painstaking and thorough” two-year investigation found that Prince did not know he had become addicted to fentanyl and neither did anyone around him.

“To actively charge a crime requires probable cause and a reasonable likelihood of conviction. The bottom line is that we simply do not have sufficient evidence to charge anyone with a crime related to Prince’s death,” Metz said.

Metz said there was no evidence that the counterfeit pills, laced with fentanyl and found at Prince’s home, were prescribed by a doctor.

Jodi’s all about Meg Wolitzer’s new book The Female Persuasion.

‘The Female Persuasion’ by Meg Wolitzer

To be admired by someone we admire – we all yearn for this: the private, electrifying pleasure of being singled out by someone of esteem. But sometimes it can also mean entry to a new kind of life, a bigger world.

Listen to Jodi explain at 3 minutes into the show podcast below:

Charming and wise, knowing and witty, Meg Wolitzer delivers a novel about power and influence, ego and loyalty, womanhood and ambition. At its heart, The Female Persuasion is about the flame we all believe is flickering inside of us, waiting to be seen and fanned by the right person at the right time. It’s a story about the people who guide and the people who follow (and how those roles evolve over time), and the desire within all of us to be pulled into the light.

Greer Kadetsky is a shy college freshman when she meets the woman she hopes will change her life. Faith Frank, dazzlingly persuasive and elegant at sixty-three, has been a central pillar of the women’s movement for decades, a figure who inspires others to influence the world. Upon hearing Faith speak for the first time, Greer- madly in love with her boyfriend, Cory, but still full of longing for an ambition that she can’t quite place- feels her inner world light up. And then, astonishingly, Faith invites Greer to make something out of that sense of purpose, leading Greer down the most exciting path of her life as it winds toward and away from her meant-to-be love story with Cory and the future she’d always imagined.

‘THE NIGHTINGALE’ BY KRISTEN HANNAH

515p3OrN1KL._SX327_BO1,204,203,200_In love we find out who we want to be.

In war we find out who we are.

FRANCE, 1939

In the quiet village of Carriveau, Vianne Mauriac says goodbye to her husband, Antoine, as he heads for the Front. She doesn’t believe that the Nazis will invade France … but invade they do, in droves of marching soldiers, in caravans of trucks and tanks, in planes that fill the skies and drop bombs upon the innocent. When a German captain requisitions Vianne’s home, she and her daughter must live with the enemy or lose everything. Without food or money or hope, as danger escalates all around them, she is forced to make one impossible choice after another to keep her family alive.

Vianne’s sister, Isabelle, is a rebellious eighteen-year-old girl, searching for purpose with all the reckless passion of youth. While thousands of Parisians march into the unknown terrors of war, she meets Gäetan, a partisan who believes the French can fight the Nazis from within France, and she falls in love as only the young can … completely. But when he betrays her, Isabelle joins the Resistance and never looks back, risking her life time and again to save others.

With courage, grace and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of WWII and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women’s war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France–a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

The Goldfinch: A Novel
by Donna Tartt

The Goldfinch is a rarity that comes along perhaps half a dozen times per decade, a smartly written literary novel that connects with the heart as well as the mind….Donna Tartt has delivered an extraordinary work of fiction.”Stephen King, New York Times Book Review

Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don’t know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his longing for his mother, he clings to the one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love–and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle.

The Goldfinch is a mesmerizing, stay-up-all-night and tell-all-your-friends triumph, an old-fashioned story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention, and the ruthless machinations of fate.
