Keeping Dogs Feeling Safe During Fireworks

By | MS&J Feed | No Comments

“Lately, during fireworks I just want to hug my dogs.”  -Jodi

According to Cesar Milan

1. Preparation

Arrange to have your dog in a place where there won’t be loud fireworks displays

2. Accommodation

If you cannot take your dog to a place away from fireworks, then have a travel kennel at home for her to feel safe in.

3. Acclimation

The best way to prepare your dog for fireworks is to make sure he’s comfortable with the sound in advance.

4. Sedation

If you do find it necessary to use medication or a thundershirt to calm your dog during the fireworks, remember that you must introduce any such tool at the right time, conditioning your dog to understand that the medication or thundershirt is there to bring them to a calm state.

5. Communication

If you are going to be with your dog during the fireworks, sending the calming message that they are nothing to worry about will also help him to relax. Remember, though, while humans communicate with words, dogs communicate with energy.

We can look forward to the continuation of that story with Val Kilmer returning to his famous role as Iceman.

What Loggins has shared about the project is enticing. The singer has confirmed that he’s toying with the idea of recording a duet version of Danger Zone.

Staycation Ideas

By | MS&J Feed | No Comments

Sometimes you just want to go on vacation, but you just don’t want to go on vacation, you know? If you find yourself wanting to get out of the house, but you don’t want to have to drive an eternity to get there, we have some staycation ideas that would be perfect for you:

Game Day – play games all day.  Take snack breaks!

Board games, card games, outside games will all work! Change up the scenery too. You can bring the board game to the park or something.

No Electronics.  Go quiet!

We have too many screens to look at all day, every day so why not try to go a full day without them? Can you do it?

Spa Day.  Everyone gets something done.

Treat yourself! Make you and yours feel better and more relaxed by going to the spa and working on you.

Spend the night in a hotel in town.  Enjoy the pool!

Maybe the best part of a vacation for you is the hotel. The AC, the ice machine, the room service? It’s all part of the experience and perhaps if you like that enough, just go spend the night at a hotel in town! You don’t even have to drive anywhere. Pick the best one and use all that gas money you saved on a bunch of room service!

Drive to a hiking spot.  Pack water & food, then go explore.

This one speaks for itself. Hiking will accomplish most of these staycation goals. No screens. Just you, your snacks and the open wood.

Movie day.  1 in the theater, 1 later at home.

With so many remakes in the theater now, you could probably watch an original and a remake all in one day.

Take in a museum, or 2!

There’s art museums, science museums, and many more places to learn and experience new things.

Go out to eat somewhere the family has never been.

Maybe there’s that one restaurant that you keep passing by but you’ve never eaten there. Go out there and try it!

Park day.  Drive the best park you’ve not experienced.  (water or rec)

Rent a convertible.

Tour a factory – or 2.

Take the family to a play – especially if kids have never been.

Tour a fire station, train station etc.

Tips on Tipping

By | MS&J Feed | No Comments

Listen to Jodi explain this at 43 minutes into the show podcast below:

According to Business Insider

How much to tip varies by service but is generally 18% of your bill.

“You can also consider creating an entirely separate category within your budget only for tipping. This means that if your tipping category runs low, you can decide how to dine out based around the tipping amount.” When in doubt, always tip at least a little something.

Uber/Lyft
$1 to $2 per person for shorter rides; 10% (up to 20% for exceptional service)
Tip at the end of the ride, and tip extra for traffic, construction, distance, inconveniences, and if the driver helps with luggage or packages.

Waitstaff

15% (up to 20% for exceptional service)

Package Delivery

$5 (up to $10 for exceptional service)

Tipping here should be considered as an extra gift for those hauling heavy packages to your door. If they had to climb several stairs or it’s extremely hot, consider tipping more.

Movers

$5 (up to $10 for exceptional service)

Tipping here should be considered as an extra gift for those hauling heavy packages to your door. If they had to climb several stairs or it’s extremely hot, consider tipping more.

Haircuts

10% to 15% (up to 15% to 20% for exceptional service)

Tip after the service is completed, and tip everyone involved. For example, different people washing and drying your hair should receive $5. The person doing most of the work should receive the biggest tip.

Food Delivery

$10% or $2 minimum

Tip when paying online or when the food is delivered.

Concierge

$5 (up to $20 for exceptional service)

Tip when you receive the service. Tip little or nothing at all if the concierge only provides directions.
